What is a Gold Award?
The highest achievement within the Girl Scouts, earned by only 5.4% of eligible Girl Scouts!
Definition
The Girl Scout Gold Award is a Take Action project that must (1) address a root cause of an issue that the scout feels passionate about that has a (2) national and/or global link. Through their actions, the scout must demonstrate (3) leadership while also creating (4) sustainable and (5) measurable impact.

A "Take Action project" does more than fulfill an immediate need, but addresses an issue by tackling the factors that cause or contribute to it. These projects have a far-reaching impact and are designed to change something for the better—forever.
Requirements

a minimum of 80 hours are to be spent bringing a Gold Award to fruition

25% research, proposal creation, and council appearances​

25% logistics, money raising, and training

50% implementation, leadership, and work in the community

the project must have sustainable power and a lasting legacy

a scout must complete their Silver Award

a scout must complete a Girl Scout Journey (extended engagement with a topic that culminates in a Take Action project)
